Paintings 2019

2019 starts with a departure from 2018s technique. With the first two paintings, "Woman With Shawl" and "Fruit Bowl After Matisse". I have used a much more loose structure and paint application.  I wanted to paint faster and achieve a more stylized figure.  The Fruit Bowl Paintings are a call from the past, I did similar studies in the 1970s and was reminded of them during a recent visit to the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk and saw for the first time in over 30 years their Matisse "Bowl Of Apples"

“Every so often, a painter has to destroy painting. Cezanne did it, Picasso did it with Cubism. Then Pollock did it. He busted our idea of a picture all to hell. Then there could be new paintings again.”

 Willem De Kooning
